In the first paragraph, the term "legionnaires" (referring to the passengers on the train) was used at the time to mean veterans of World War I.

In the same paragraph, the "Castro station" is not the modern-day Caltrain station at Castro Street in Mountain View. It's a recently-closed station on Rengstorff Avenue.

In the second paragraph, in the statement "Huff's body was found on top of the pilot," the word "pilot" refers to the metal frame on the front of a locomotive, designed to remove obstructions from the track, and sometimes called a "cow-catcher."
