The Tropic of Capricorn runs all the way around the world, about 2500 km (1500 miles) south of the Equator. Along this line the Sun is directly overhead at noon on the first day of summer in the Southern Hemisphere, in late December. Since our map said the Tropic of Capricorn crosses the Stuart Highway just north of Alice Springs, we decided to see what it looked like... |
