About Davis
a peek behind the scenes

Davis Fields has been providing marketing services to technology companies since 1995. Since then he has helped companies operating (literally) in garages, all the way to some of the world's largest technology firms.

His last "real job" was as VP Marketing at Parallan Computer, Inc. of Mountain View, California. This venture-backed startup was one of the original providers of "superservers," which were the first attempts to tackle mid-range and enterprise computing needs with systems based on PC standards. Davis was at Parallan from 1990 to 1995.

Before that, he was the Director of Marketing Programs for LAN pioneer Ungermann-Bass, Inc., and came to UB through Industrial Networking, Inc., a factory-floor networking startup funded by UB and General Electric.

Davis' first job out of school was at HP. His entire HP career was related to the HP 1000 minicomputer family, predecessor to all of HP's computer product lines. He last served as HP's European Product Marketing Manager for the HP 1000, and lived and worked for HP in Böblingen, Germany and Grenoble, France. He started with HP in Cupertino, California, and worked for the company from 1979 to 1985.

Davis has two sons, Davy (Davis IV) and Jim (James).

YOU PROBABLY DON'T KNOW THAT DAVIS...

...has run 23 marathons - 26.2 miles each - in locations that include Berlin, Paris, Stockholm, Rome and Alice Springs, Australia

...lived and worked for three weeks in an industrial town near the Ural Mountains in the fomer Soviet Union, as part of a summer internship with IBM

...is legally "Davis III," his father is "Davis, Jr.," and his grandfather was "Davis, Sr." Before that, in the hills of eastern Kentucky where the Fields family lived, it has been customary to name the first male child after his father's father - so Davis has ancestors named Davis Fields, skipping generations, all the way back to the US Revolutionary War

...was the volunteer school board chairman at Bethel Lutheran School in Cupertino, California through most of the 1990s, and drove two large construction projects to improve and expand the school

...has served at Mountain View (California) High School as a volunteer math and science tutor

...speaks German, French and Russian (some better than others, but all well enough to have a conversation)

...lived and studied for a semester in then-West Berlin, when it was still surrounded by the Berlin Wall, and was hosted by an older German couple. The husband had been a Luftwaffe pilot in World War II, and they'd lost their first child fleeing from the Soviets at the end of the war

...writes with his left hand and does pretty much everything else with his right hand
